Synopsis of Part II

Leading on the Internet

In “The Five Authors You Meet On the Internet,” we find a concept that many sense “in their bones” is the key to God’s people using the internet – the creation of online virtual communities.  At its foundation, this concept of virtual communities is predicated on the idea that people want to interact.  They want to communicate. To download a free copy of The Five Authors You Meet on the Internet, click here. After you read it, you'll be ready for the rest of my e-book.

In Part II: Leading On the Internet, I introduce the following concepts

The Five Keys to Building Community

  1. People are becoming increasingly disconnected from one another. Yet, they long to reach out and share themselves with others.

  2. They don’t want to hear just from “experts.”  They want to hear – and be heard by – people like them.  This is especially true of young people.

  3. Many businesses and secular groups are learning about the power of how virtual communities can help them become and stay connected with their customers.  Church ministries can learn, adapt and apply these same concepts.
  4. Church leaders know instinctively that the Internet holds an important key to reaching people for Christ.  What is lacking is a clear vision for how to do it.
  5. To be effective at online ministry, churches need to understand, master and apply the principles of leading rich and diverse "multidirectional conversations" via the use of online distance learning.

When you purchase Finding Community:  Building Connections on the Frontier of Online Ministry, you'll also get a section I title "Resources from the Internet."  Here, I've listed websites you can visit to get ideas for webpage design, using Socratic teaching methods, as well as courses that are offered about how to do online ministry.  I've also thrown in a glossary of Internet terms, so if you have a hard time figuring out what all this "Internet Jargon" means, you'll find this a handy source.
